January 7, 2009 Dear Fellow Members, Substitutes and Friends of Subs I am very pleased to announce to you the NSTA 2009 Summer Conference. It will be presented by The College of Education of Florida Gulf Coast University, The Florida Alliance of Substitutes; and our local hosts, Lee County Substitute Teachers, in Fort Myers, Florida on July 24-26, 2009. Friends and colleagues you will not want to miss this meeting if you are a substitute, work with substitutes, or provide professional services to substitute teachers. Housing, meals and all meetings will all be on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University. Before you conjure up visions of a monastic retreat with hard beds and Spartan sustenance let me assure you this brand new 21st century campus will be providing wonderful meals and an apartment style residence hall. For those of us who graduated 15 or 20 or more years ago: Things have changed! The conference will kick off with a Get acquainted, Ice breaking and Friendship evening on Friday. The word is the Florida U. folks know how to put on a great evening of fun and entertainment! We will further expand the list of “break out sessions”, which has grown steadily since their initiation at the 2006 conference in California. If you are interested in presenting at the conference we welcome your application. Please send personal information and an outline of your presentation to the screening committee chair Ms Judith Keiffer at
